August 2020 Update

Aug 14, 2020

KTFB will be delivering the monthly boxes this Friday and Saturday, and Distribution Centres are open Saturday 9-11 am.  It has become the norm to follow strict distancing and no-contact guidelines for the safety of all recipients and Food Bank volunteers.

This month, Hillside is providing a banquet of veggies, adding celery and cauliflower to their usual offering of carrots, onions, parsnips and beets.  Foothills Greenhouses again is offering an abundance of their beautiful English cucumbers, and Dorio’s Bakery continues the bread generosity.

In addition, donations continue to arrive through Canada Helps, by Interac and through cheque and cash.  The Food Bank is grateful to those who keep us top of mind as we all work our way through the pandemic. Special thanks are offered to Tara Graham in Schomberg who is giving away her handmade masks, suggesting that a donation be made to KTFB.  This generous act has resulted in over $400 being received, and money still coming in.

Back to School

This month, 79 backpacks are being given out to families with school aged children, JK-12.  This is a self-funding program under the leadership of Leona Zadoyko, and the Food Bank wishes to thank King Bible Church, who ‘adopted’ all the backpacks for the King City centre.  Through the funding generosity of the Nobleton Lions, and with volunteer time by Michelle (who has been prominent in the quarterly Clothing Give-Aways) and her team, the remaining backpacks were sourced, filled and delivered.

Sip & Savour

Looking ahead, Sip & Savour plans are under way.  Méline Beach and her team are planning Sip & Savour Home Edition to be held Thursday October 22 with a virtual gathering being broadcast from the lovely setting of the Sherwood Farm Venue and Retreat.  Theresa Sherwood is generously sponsoring her property for this extraordinary event, and attendees will be treated to the backdrop of her beautiful house and outdoor vistas.   Ticket holders will receive a charcuterie presentation with a bottle of wine, delivered on the day of the event to sip and savour as they enjoy a 30-minute online presentation.

While we recognize that this year’s event will be different from years; past, we are thrilled to maintain the momentum we’ve created and the tradition this event has become for so many people.

Christmas in King

While not a Food Bank endeavour, the partnership is very close, with a number of Food Bank volunteers also working on making a happy Christmas for others.  Registration will be opening soon, and our webmaster, Geoff Simpson, is developing a web page that will make the process user-friendly for internet users.  CiK volunteers are hoping registrations will come in early to allow them more time to assemble all in these extraordinary times.

Donations can be made with Interac through donations@ktfb.ca  or via our Canada Helps link.
